AXIS-Y to the rescue!

Introducing a new Korean skincare brand which is a climate-based skincare solution, Axis-Y focuses on the use of effective natural ingredients to bring the best out of our skin. Are you curious? Carry on reading to see our Librarian’s review on Axis-Y products.

What is Axis-Y?

Axis-Y is a climate inspired skincare solutions brand, it creates products which are personalised to your skincare concerns based on the climate around you. For their initial launch they have prescribed the 6+1+1 Advanced Formula Skincare line for people with acne-prone and oily skin living in humid climates. Coming from a country which isn't humid, how will the 6+1+1 Advanced Formula Skincare line add up?

Date of Review: November 2019

So for the past few weeks, as the weather in the UK gets colder and harsher, my skin has become more sensitive. With the weather, my skin condition changes and its effects are detrimental as my skin becomes super sensitive and on top of that, having acne flare ups becomes a mood damper.

Most of the times, this would mean I would just need to layer on a thicker cream, but to my dismay, my problems didn’t go away. So low and behold, I tried out the AXIS-Y products, their 6+1+1 line is catered towards the humid weather so I wasn’t sure how it would match with the gloomy, cold, dry climate that we have in the UK, but always worth a shot!

Before we get into it, I’ll give you a quick rundown on my skin type. I have combination and sensitive skin, so my T-zone gets really oily whereas other areas are normal. I have to be careful with what type of products I use on my face as my skin is sensitive. My main skin concern is acne as I have been struggling with hormonal acne since my teen years, however as I age I do get less breakouts but nevertheless I still get some breakouts. But what mostly remains are blackheads and acne scars, so shall we get reviewing?

(!) DISCLAIMER (!): Before adding any new products to your routine, make sure to perform a patch test to check that you are not allergic or sensitive to any of the ingredients.

Quinoa One-Step Balanced Gel Cleanser

"A loving cleanser that clears makeup and pores in one step while delivering a gentle and hydrating wash at your skin’s natural pH. The combination of quinoa and healthy nutrients remove environmental toxins to reveal healthy, lively skin.

- gently, but effectively cleans skin

- removes excess keratin and free radicals

- rebuilds skin for a supple and smooth complexion"

First Impression:

  • Comes with a pump which is handy
  • Lathers up quite well but doesn’t create a thick foam
  • Not irritating and doesn’t strip the skin

Water, Decyl Glucoside, Sodium Cocoyl Glutamate, Chenopodium Quinoa Seed Extract, Glycerin, Sodium Lauroyl Glutamate, Betaine, Glycine Soja (Soybean Oil), Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree) Extract, Chlorphenesin, Hydroxyacetophenone, Ethylhexylglycerin, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Humulus Lupulus (Hops) Extract, Ocimum Tenuiflorum Extract, Centella Asiatica Extract, Calendula Officinalis Flower Extract, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Fruit Extract, Citric Acid, Geranium Maculatum Oil, Allantoin.

The cleanser does its job at cleansing, it says that it can remove makeup and it definitely does, I use it to remove any leftover makeup residue which might remain after oil cleansing (It’s so gentle that I could even use it to remove any leftover eye makeup – panda eyes from waterproof mascara). I personally like that it doesn’t foam up a lot so it isn’t as messy for me when cleansing. A month in, I realised that after cleansing my skin feels softer and clean.

After a month of using it, I still have half a bottle left so I believe it is worth your money!

Daily Purifying Treatment Toner

"Clears out bacteria and pollution stuck deep in pores that cause persistent inflammation and acne. Nutrients from our natural ingredients then soothe skin and promote healing."

First Impression:

  • Herbal Scented
  • Very cooling to the skin
  • As it is clarifying, it might be too strong on sensitive areas

Water, Centella Asiatica Extract, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Water, Butylene Glycol, Alcohol, Sodium Hyaluronate, Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree Extract), Sorbitan Sesquioleate, Vaccinium Myrtillus Fruit Extract, Saccharum Officinatum (Sugar Cane) Extract, Acer Saccharum (Sugar Maple) Extract, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Fruit Extract, Citrus Medica Limonum (Lemon) Fruit Extract, Betaine, Salicylic Acid, Salvia Officinalis (Sage) Extract, Houttuynia Cordata Extract, Hieracium Pilosella Extract, Illicium Verum (Anise) Fruit Extract, Citrus Paradisi (Grapefruit) Fruit Extract, Nelumbium Speciosum Flower Extract, Paeonia Suffruticose Root Extract, Scutellaria Baicalensis Root Extract, PEG-60 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Chlorphenesin, Ethylhexylglycerin, Sodium Citrate, Gluconolactone, Arginine, Rheum Palmatum Root Extract, Artemisia Princeps Leaf Extract, Panax Ginseng Root Extract, Carbomer, Dimethyl Sulfone, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Oil, Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree) Leaf Oil.

The toner has a slight cooling effect which I imagine would feel amazing in more humid climates, however if you are sensitive to alcohol I’d avoid this product. This is because I also used it for a bit but I started realising that my skin was getting irritated with some redness and irritation on my cheeks. If you do try out this product, make sure to test it out on a small patch of skin to test out for irritation. If you do get any irritation whilst using the toner, make sure to stop using the toner immediately.

Artichoke Intensive Skin Barrier Ampoule

"An artichoke ampoule that delivers rich anti-oxidants, nutrients, and hydration that heals damaged, irritated skin barriers. In addition, phytonutrients defend against bacteria and pollutants to prevents future breakouts and irritation."

First Impression:

  • Light scent but disappears after massaging it in.
  • It is quite close to a water texture and spreads easily
  • Quickly absorbed into the skin without leaving a sticky feeling

Water, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Water, Butylene Glycol, Sodium Hyaluronate, Centella Asiatica Extract, Glycerin, Betaine, Glycyrrhiza Glabra (Licorice) Root Extract, Alcohol, Cynara Scolymus (Artichoke) Extract, Sorbitol, Sorbitan Sesquioleate, Hieracium Pilosella Extract, Rheum Palmatum Root Extract, Althaea Rosea Flower Extract, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract, Dimethyl Sulfone, Chlorphenesin, Xanthan Gum, PEG-60 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Ethylhexylglycerin, Polyglutamic Acid, Beta-Glucan, Arginine, Linum Usitatissimum (Linseed) Seed Extract, Hibiscus Esculentus Fruit Extract, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Arctium Lappa Root Extract, Hibiscus Mutabilis Flower Extract, Corchorus Olitorius Leaf Extract, Allantoin, Carbomer, Adenosine, Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree) Leaf Oil.

My favourite in the line is by far the ampoule, my skin’s barrier has improved a lot and is less sensitive, and definitely what I will need during the winter when my skins condition seems to be at its worse. It also quickly absorbed into the skin so it doesn’t feel like I’m applying a load of products on my face. Within a month I finished the bottle and already looking towards my 2nd bottle, I used this day and night because I felt like I needed it and the addition of the ampoule wouldn’t make my face greasier than it should.

One thing you should definitely keep note of is that you should be patting this product into your skin rather than massaging it into your skin!

Dark Spot Correcting Glow Serum

"A Niacinamide serum to correct dark spots and improve uneven skin tone.  With the help of plant-derived Squalane, this serum retains skin’s moisture to keep your skin glowing healthy wherever you go.

- reduces pigmentation concerns including dark spots and uneven skin tones

- smoothes and brightens skin

- deep moisturizing"

First Impression:

  • Light scent but disappears after massaging it in.
  • Innovative design, using a pump with a tube
  • One pump goes a long way
  • It is very lightweight and moisturising, instantly soaked up in the skin
  • After application, skin feels smoother and supple, no sticky feeling

Water, Glycerin, Niacinamide, Sodium Hyaluronate, Propanediol, Erythritol, Butylene Glycol, Squalane, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Bran Extract, Calendula Officinalis Flower Extract, Carica Papaya (Papaya) Fruit Extract, Hippophae Rhamnoides Fruit Extract, Malpighia Emarginata (Acerola) Fruit Extract, Polyglyceryl-10 Laurate, Chlorphenesin, Arginine, Ethylhexylglycerin, Carbomer, Glutathione, 1,2-Hexanediol, Hydroxypropyl Cyclodextrin, Disodium EDTA, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Allantoin, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Oil.

I had high hopes for the serum, but I didn’t really see a big difference when it came to my acne scars. However, I have only used it for a month so it might not have come into effect just yet, it is supposed to make a gradual change with consistent use over at least 3 months. So I will have to wait and see.

One thing I definitely liked about this serum was how quickly it absorbed into my skin, after applying toner and ampoule sometimes I don’t want to add a serum because it feels like I’m just piling on a lot of products to my skin. However, as this absorbs almost instantly into my skin I didn’t feel like it was too much, so it became a part of my everyday routine.

Final thoughts:

Even after a few days use of these products I noticed a difference, my skin barrier had repaired and my skin become so soft and smooth.

With this line of products I have used the COSRX Oil-Free Moisturising Lotion and it has helped with controlling my oils, even during the winter my skin can get a little oily, but with the line up of products my oils have been tamed!

Overall, the cleanser, ampoule and serum have made a noticeable difference to my skin texture, it is so soft and smooth. So if you have texture issues with your skin, this line will definitely come in handy.

For skin barrier repair, I would 1000% recommend the ampoule because I can vouch that this ampoule has saved my skin and made it less sensitive.
